Rich is a life-long Rochester community member. He was born and raised in Rochester where he went to St. Francis Grade School and graduated from Lourdes High School. He attended nearby St. Olaf College where he sang in a number of the annual Christmas Festivals.

After graduating from Marquette University Law School, Rich practiced in Seattle as a civil litigator and in-house counsel before returning to Rochester. After returning to Rochester, Rich worked at the Rochester City Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor where he litigated hundreds of trials to verdict, giving him extensive trial experience.

Community service has always been a focus for Rich. In law school, he received a pro bono awarded for his legal work to fight for medical benefits for the indigent. In Seattle, Rich provided pro bono legal services to the indigent. Currently, Rich is active in the community and serves on a number of local committee and boards.

Public service is important to Rich. He serves his country as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves Judge Advocate General Corps. His military service provides him with particular insight into the unique issues military families face in litigation, employment, divorce, and other legal matters.
