Drunk driving an issue following Super Bowl

On behalf of Restovich Braun & Associates posted in car accidents on Thursday, January 29, 2015.

For football lovers throughout the country the biggest weekend of the year is around the corner-The Super Bowl. Each year individuals who enjoy watching the game (and sometimes those who don't!) gather to watch the championship game. At those gatherings, alcohol often pays a prominent role.

As is the case on any occasion where alcohol is available, there is a chance that individuals who have consumed too much will get behind the wheel of a car and drive. In some cases this could lead to a car accident. The outcome of such car accidents could be serious injuries or even death. For those whose lives are affected by an accident caused by a drunk driver, knowing what to do can be difficult.

There are things that individuals hosting a party can do to try to keep their guests from driving drunk. Party hosts can make sure that guests know that those who are drunk should plan an alternate form of transportation home. This could be public transportation, a cab or a fellow attendee who is sober. Hosts can also allow attendees who do not have a viable safe ride home, to stay overnight. Making sure that sober drivers and all the individuals they are transporting wear their seat belts.

One option that those who are hurt or lose a loved one in a drunk driving accident, can be worth exploring is filing a lawsuit against the intoxicated driver. Among other things, this is a way of holding a drunk driver responsible for his or her actions outside of criminal court. It could also result in financial compensation.
