Paying attention when you are driving across a road is important. A recent accident along U.S. 63 shows how devastating the accident can be if you end up crashing into someone when you cross the road.
The accident occurred when a minivan was crossing the highway. A motorcycle that had a driver and a passenger was heading south on the highway. The vehicles collided as the minivan was crossing the highway.
The passenger of the motorcycle and the driver of the minivan were both seriously injured in the accident and taken to the hospital. The driver of the motorcycle was killed. A passenger in the minivan didn’t show obvious signs of injury.
Neither of the people on the motorcycle was wearing a helmet. Interestingly, Minnesota law doesn’t require all drivers and riders on motorcycles to wear helmets. The law does require eye protection, but for people will a full motorcycle endorsement, helmets are optional.
As of the latest update from the Mayo Clinic Hospital – Saint Marys Campus where both of the injured women were taken, the motorcycle passenger is now listed as being in fair condition. There wasn’t an update on the driver of the van, according to the hospital’s spokeswoman.
Even though the cooler months are coming, motorists should still watch for motorcycles so that accidents like this one won’t occur. For motorcyclists, the severe injuries possible if they are in an accident can mean lengthy medical care plans. Since the treatments don’t come without a cost, injured motorcyclists might choose to seek compensation from the driver who struck them.
