Motorcycle safety gear must be a priority

Most motorcycle riders know that safety is paramount if you want to be able to enjoy your ride without taking unnecessary risks. Obviously, proper safety gear starts with wearing an appropriate helmet. The helmet must be one that meets current safety standards. But, what about going beyond the helmet?

The shoes you wear on your motorcycle is important. You need to choose shoes that can withstand the elements as you drive. The soles have to be able to withstand the pressure of you holding the motorcycle upright when you are stopped. Ideally, you will choose motorcycle boots, which are considerably better than tennis shoes or cowboy boots. Motorcycle boots have stiff soles, are comfortable and are made of material that can accommodate the abuse the boots will receive as you ride.

The clothing you choose can make or break what happens when you are in an accident. Leather outer gear can help to protect your skin if you go down. Leather also gives you another advantage – if you fall from the bike, you are more likely to slide instead of tumble. That can decrease the severity of other injuries that you suffer from.

When you are choosing safety gear, take a look at other points, including the amount of padding and any reflective properties. The more padding you have and the more reflective your clothing, the more your safety is increased. Some clothing made especially for motorcyclists has armor padding, which can considerably decrease the shock and impact that your body will deal with in a fall.

Even with the best gear, there is a chance that you will suffer an injury if you are struck by another vehicle. If that occurs, you might have to replace your motorcycle and pay medical bills, which might be a bit easier if you seek compensation.
